Game of Thrones Spinoffs Set for 2026 Release on HBO Max
HBO Max announces 2026 release dates for major Game of Thrones spinoffs.
HBO Max has confirmed that the much-anticipated spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will debut in January 2026. This adaptation of George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novella trilogy is set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Casey Bloys, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, revealed this news in a recent conversation with Variety.
Martin expressed his excitement about the show, stating he has viewed all six episodes and praised the casting of Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg. He described this adaptation as remarkably faithful to the source material, highlighting that fans will meet compelling characters such as the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall.
In contrast, House of the Dragon Season 3 is set for a summer 2026 release, with June being suggested as a potential launch month. However, the show's creator, Ryan Condal, has faced some criticism from Martin regarding the second season’s plot elements. While these discussions have stirred some drama within the fandom, 2026 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Game of Thrones enthusiasts.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates since the announcement of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2021. Thus far, only a teaser trailer and a single image have been released, but the excitement around the show continues to grow as we approach its release.
