A New Era for Evangelion

To honor three decades of one of the most influential franchises in anime history, the Evangelion: 30th Anniversary Festival is set to unveil a new short animated film tentatively titled "Evangelion Broadcast 30th Anniversary Special Screening."

Key Features

The highlight for fans is the direct involvement of the franchise's creator, Hideaki Anno, who will serve as planner, screenwriter, and chief supervisor for this new project. Naoyuki Asano, known for his work as an animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, will direct the short, with a prestigious team of supervisors, including Kazuya Tsurumaki, Shinji Higuchi, and Ikki Todoroki.

Event Details

The short film is approximately 13 minutes long and will be screened once a day on a massive 18 x 15 meter LED screen at the Yokohama Arena. The festival will run from February 21 to 23, 2025.

Alongside the animated short, Studio Khara and Shochiku will collaborate to present the Kabuki Symphony No. 9 Evangelion, a unique theatrical interpretation that will also be part of the festival. Attendees can expect exhibition areas, exclusive merchandise, and a specially designed space directed by the creators at Khara, featuring a logo designed by Anno himself.

These festivities will complement the Monthly Eva: Evangelion 30th Movie Fest. 2025-2026, which will re-release the franchise's films in Japanese cinemas until February.
