Erica Henderson to Illuminate the Journey of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
DC Comics is finally giving Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy the spotlight their fans have long demanded. This November, Eisner Award-winning creator Erica Henderson launches Harley and Ivy: Life and Crimes, a six-issue series chronicling the couple’s full journey—from enemies to friends to lovers. The book promises to cover every milestone of their romance in canonical fashion, marking a major shift from the publisher’s prior reluctance to embrace the pairing in print.
That hesitation was once a major source of controversy. Despite Harley and Ivy being depicted as a couple in numerous titles, spin-offs, and even merchandise, DC Comics editorial often “straightwashed” the relationship—keeping them apart in the main Harley Quinn series, pairing Harley with Booster Gold, and even rebranding a statue of the duo from “same-sex couple” to just “friends.” These moves stood in stark contrast to the Harley Quinn animated series, which unapologetically leaned into the pair’s romance, culminating in a near-marriage arc that fans rallied behind with the #SaveHarleyAndIvy campaign.
Now, with Life and Crimes, DC is putting past editorial conflicts behind them and embracing Harley and Ivy as one of its most beloved queer couples. The project not only reflects shifting industry attitudes but also acknowledges the passionate fanbase that fought to keep their story alive. For Harley and Ivy supporters, November’s release is more than just a new comic—it’s a vindication years in the making.
