Upcoming Netflix Series Explores Ed Gein's Disturbing Legacy
Ed Gein's chilling story returns in Netflix's Monster series.
Netflix has just unveiled the trailer for the third season of its anthology series, Monster, focusing on one of the most unsettling figures in true crime history: Ed Gein. Titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story, this season features Charlie Hunnam as the infamous murderer whose gruesome actions have haunted the horror genre for decades.
The trailer immerses viewers in Gein's disturbing world almost immediately. Hunnam undergoes an unsettling transformation into the reclusive figure from Wisconsin, notably seen in a grotesque suit made from human flesh—a reflection of Gein's real-life horrors.
Netflix describes the chilling series as:
“Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm—hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.”
Gein's dark psyche generated a new breed of monsters that became influential in Hollywood, laying the groundwork for classics like Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. His legacy serves as a cultural fixation on criminal depravity.
Alongside Hunnam, the series features a talented cast including Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, and Olivia Williams. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, this season's production sees Hunnam not only starring but also serving as an executive producer. Additionally, Max Winkler directs several episodes.
As Monster continues to gain success, a fourth season has already been confirmed, shifting its focus to the infamous Lizzie Borden case with Ella Beatty portraying Borden. Hunnam may return for this next chapter as well.
Prepare for one of the darkest seasons yet as Monster: The Ed Gein Story premieres on October 3rd.
