New Magic Knight Rayearth Anime Announcement

The official website for the beloved franchise based on CLAMP's Magic Knight Rayearth manga has revealed that a new anime adaptation will debut in 2026 on TV Asahi and its affiliated channels. This announcement has generated significant excitement among fans of the original series.

About Magic Knight Rayearth

Magic Knight Rayearth follows the journey of three high school girls: Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu. During a school field trip to Tokyo Tower, they mysteriously find themselves transported to the fantasy world of Cephiro. Here, they meet the mage Clef, who informs them that the world is on the brink of collapse due to the kidnapping of Princess Emeraude by the priest Zagato. It's up to these young heroes to harness their newfound magical abilities as Magic Knights to save Cephiro.

Previous Adaptations

Originally serialized from 1993 to 1996 in Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine, the Magic Knight Rayearth manga inspired two television anime seasons. The first aired from October 1994 to March 1995, followed by a second season titled Magic Knight Rayearth 2 from April to November 1995. A three-part original video animation was also released in 1997, offering an alternate take on the story.

The anime has had various releases, with Media Blasters distributing it on VHS and DVD in the U.S. in the past. More recently, Discotek Media licensed the show and released a complete collection in 2017, not including the OVA series.
