Bandai Namco Unveils Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters

Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially announced Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, set to release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026. This announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase livestream.

As revealed in the announcement trailer, the game will include 22 national teams and more than 110 playable characters. This will allow players to experience the thrilling soccer action inspired by Yōichi Takahashi's iconic manga.

Background on Captain Tsubasa

The original Captain Tsubasa manga, which ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1981 to 1988, has left a lasting legacy, inspiring four television anime series, multiple films, and OVAs. Currently, the series continues with the Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun manga, focusing on Tsubasa's journey to the Olympics.

In 2023, the final saga of the series, Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun The Final, debuted, marking a significant milestone as it wraps up the beloved franchise.

Manga Availability

The complete chapters of the original Captain Tsubasa manga are now available in English through Shueisha's MANGA Plus service, which launched in April 2025. February 2020 also saw the release of a bilingual edition for eOneBook readers.
