The latest announcement from CAPCOM unveiled a thrilling gameplay trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword during the gamescom 2025 livestream. Scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2026, the game promises to deliver an engaging blend of action and storytelling.

Originally debuting in 2001, the Onimusha series has captivated audiences by intertwining supernatural elements with the narratives of Japan's Sengoku era. This trailer comes hot on the heels of the recent remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, which launched on various platforms including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 23. Notably, this marks an ongoing revival of the franchise, which includes the remaster of Onimusha: Warlords that released in January 2019.

The storied franchise also inspired a CG film, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, in 2006, incorporating previously animated content along with original scenes. Additionally, an anime adaptation debuted on Netflix in November 2023, directed by Shin'ya Sugai and supervised by renowned filmmaker Takashi Miike. As excitement builds for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, fans of the series have much to look forward to in this revival of a classic.
