Fans of Archie Comics can look forward to a revitalization of the iconic characters with two new projects currently in development. Notably, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, known for their work on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, are set to produce an Archie movie for Universal Pictures, with acclaimed comic writer Tom King attached to pen the script.

Lord and Miller expressed their enthusiasm, stating:

“We are longtime fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the gang in all of their iterations. When we heard Tom King’s take on the classic material, we instantly thought it made sense as an event movie for all audiences—both lifelong fans and a whole new generation.”

While it remains unclear whether the film will be animated or live-action, the story is said to draw inspiration from the comic book Archie: The Married Life, which explores two alternate futures for Archie Andrews: one where he marries Betty Cooper and another where he weds Veronica Lodge. The project will also see producers Emma Watts, Jon Goldwater, and Aditya Sood collaborating with Universal’s Britt Hennemuth and Christine Sun.

In addition to the movie, there is also a new series in the works for Disney+, reportedly featuring horror elements akin to Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This show will be based on Afterlife With Archie, a storyline that introduces a zombie invasion to the town of Riverdale. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator of Riverdale, is expected to take on the role of showrunner, with the project attracting significant interest from major streaming platforms.

With these developments, Archie Comics is poised to engage a new generation of fans while keeping its longstanding audience entertained.
