Anticipation Grows as Hulk Rejoins MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
New details reveal that Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, signalling an exciting evolution of Bruce Banner's character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as fresh insights about Bruce Banner's upcoming role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day emerge. Mark Ruffalo is set to return as the iconic Hulk, maintaining the Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures trend of integrating established MCU heroes into Spider-Man's narrative. Previous films have already featured Iron Man, Nick Fury, and Doctor Strange in mentoring roles; now it’s Hulk’s turn to guide Peter Parker.
According to reports from The Cosmic Circus, Bruce Banner's perspective is notably altered when audiences first encounter him in Brand New Day. Following the events of She-Hulk and Brave New World, Banner faces the reality of his greatest fear: the emergence of others who can become the Hulk. This realization significantly affects his behavior and mindset throughout the film, creating an intriguing tension that will continue into the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday. However, Hulk is not expected to confront familiar adversaries like Red Hulk or The Leader, as both villains remain securely imprisoned at The Raft.
While fans have been eagerly speculating whether this installment hints at a World War Hulk film, sources indicate that Brand New Day is primarily designed to set up Hulk's narrative for the Avengers sequel, not a solo adventure. This direction suggests Marvel intends to further explore Hulk's character within the overarching Avengers storyline rather than launching another standalone movie. Yet many fans are still hopeful for the return of the untamed version of the Hulk, shedding the "Smart Hulk" persona.
This latest crossover serves a dual purpose, reinforcing She-Hulk’s presence in the MCU despite mixed reviews of her series. Tatiana Maslany is expected to reprise her role in Doomsday. Interestingly, reports indicate that Spider-Man may not feature prominently in the sequel unless plans change, allowing more focus on Hulk and a star-studded Avengers lineup. Returning heroes include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, and more — creating a highly anticipated ensemble.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a script by Stephen McFeely and contributions from Michael Waldron, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
