The anime and music worlds are mourning the loss of Nobuo Yamada, the legendary voice behind Saint Seiya’s iconic opening theme. Known affectionately as NoB, Yamada passed away on August 9 at 1:39 p.m. in Japan at the age of 61, after a seven-year battle with kidney cancer. His death was confirmed on August 13 by his production agency, MOJOST, leaving generations of fans grieving the loss of a singer whose powerful voice defined an era.

Yamada’s family held a private funeral to honor his memory, requesting that fans respect their privacy during this time of mourning. However, they plan to organize a special public event in the future to allow his supporters to pay their final respects and celebrate his musical legacy. Earlier this year, Yamada had revealed his diagnosis publicly, and though he continued performing with remarkable determination, worsening health forced him to cancel appearances, including the Saint Seiya Pegasus Fantasy Grand Finale concert in Mexico.

Across social media, tributes have poured in from around the world, with fans and colleagues remembering Yamada not only for his unmistakable voice but also for his warmth and dedication. His performance of “Pegasus Fantasy” became more than just an anime opening—it became an anthem for countless fans who grew up with Saint Seiya. With his passing, the community bids farewell to a true icon whose music will continue to resonate for generations.

We'll miss you Yamada-sama.
