New Trailer for 'All You Need Is Kill'

GKIDS has just begun streaming an English-subtitled trailer for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka and Yoshitoshi ABe's All You Need Is Kill. This film is set to open in theaters across North America on January 16.

Release Information

The film, which has also been acquired by GKIDS for various regions, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, is scheduled to debut on January 9 in 10 theaters in Japan.

Festival Screenings

The anime was first showcased at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June and had its North American premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival this past summer. Other notable screenings include international festivals such as:[1]

  • Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival (official selection, October 9-19)

Kenichiro Akimoto, who has worked on acclaimed projects like Children of the Sea, is directing the film at STUDIO4°C. Unlike previous adaptations, this anime offers a unique perspective on the story.

Theme Song

The theme song titled "Tsuretette" is performed by AKASAKI, marking her first contribution to an anime soundtrack, specifically written for this film.

Story Background

The plot of All You Need Is Kill revolves around a future Earth besieged by alien invaders known as Mimics. New recruit Keiji Kiriya finds himself caught in a time loop after dying in battle, forcing him to relive his final moments repeatedly and learn from them.

The original light novel was published by Shueisha in December 2004, and an English version was brought to the market by Viz Media in 2009.
