Japan and STUDIO4°C, will officially open on January 9 across 10 theaters in Japan. A new trailer showcasing the anime's theme song "Tsuretette" by AKASAKI was unveiled alongside the announcement.

Festival Screenings

In addition to its theatrical release, the anime has been nominated for the "Anima't Selection" at the 58th Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, running from October 9-19 in Spain. Additional screenings are scheduled for various international festivals:

  • Bucheon International Animation Festival: October 24-28

Story Overview

Based on Sakurazaka’s original novel, the story is set in a future where Earth is under siege by alien invaders called Mimics. The plot follows Keiji Kiriya, a new soldier who finds himself trapped in a time loop, allowing him to relearn from each death in battle. The anime adapts the narrative from the perspective of Rita Vrataski, a seasoned elite soldier, offering a unique twist compared to both the original novel and the Hollywood film adaptation, Edge of Tomorrow.

Voice Cast and Production Team

The anime features notable talents, including:

  • Ai Mikami as Rita
  • Natsuki Hanae as Keiji
  • Kana Hanazawa as Shastah
  • Hiccorohee as Raychell
  • Mo-junior high school as Yona
  • Directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, known for his work in CGI animation.

Notably, GKIDS has acquired distribution rights for the film in territories including North America and the UK, ensuring a broader audience can experience this adaptation.

Release History

Initially published in 2004, the original All You Need Is Kill novel was brought to English-speaking audiences by Viz Media in 2009, spawning a manga adaptation in 2014 that was also released in English. The story has seen significant success, inspiring the 2014 film featuring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, which grossed over $370 million worldwide.
